A travel guide: Woodstock
Our intention is to introduce you to things old and new – a true “locals guide” for spending your time here, whether you’re here for the weekend or here to stay. Next up: Woodstock, NY
Woodstock is a place to let your curiosity reign and simply wander. This small hippie town is vibrant with energy, filled with plenty of characters and creatives. Here you’ll find your fair share of tie dye and Bob Dylan memorabilia, along with exceptional food options and plenty of spaces that have been there as long as we can remember. Every Sunday you will find a drum circle at the town center just before sundown!

For as long as we can remember, we’ve been piling in the car and cruising up to Woodstock for dinner – the food options are incredible and no matter where you go the vibes are always right. Whether you’re craving Mexican, Pizza, a soup & salad, a vegan meal, or Southeast asian, they have you covered. The newer restaurants have an added flare of sophistication and the old time classics will forever carry the benefit of nostalgia. Happy eating!

Seated at the base of Overlook Mountain there are ample places to go for short or long hikes, and in the summer time lots of places to find creeks to cool off in. The classic option is Overlook Mountain with a fire tower view at the top or a walk along the Ashokan Reservoir where you may be lucky enough to spot a Bald Eagle. Wherever you go, the magical energy of Woodstock will follow.
There is the old, and there is the new! The Station hosts locals hanging and listening to live music with pool games going on in the background. The Early Terrible is a newer spot sporting a disco ball and fire pits, allowing you to hang in little bungalows. Both hosting Woodstock vibes in their own distinct ways!
The craftsmanship in Woodstock is simply unparalleled. Embracing their claim to fame, you will find ample spots carrying Woodstock memorabilia, alongside shops carrying the beautiful goods of local makers. No matter what you purchase in Woodstock it will be unique, and perhaps bring home a lingering scent of patchouli :) Fun fact: in the back of Candlestock a candle has been burning for over 4 decades – you can’t miss it!
If you’re anything like us, a good grocery store gets you excited, and the number one market on our list is easily Sunflower Market. It’s one of the most beautiful grocery stores, full of the best produce you can think of. And to top it off, you have your weekly farmers market on Saturdays in the parking lot across from the Colony.
One of the most profound forces in this little town is its art scene. Rooted in history, musicians and artisans have always resided in, created and taken inspiration from Woodstock. There are plenty of listservs around telling you about the great bands that are playing at the host of venues. Just know that most concerts will be a packed house!
Rooted in nature, the places to lay your head will more often than not be in close proximity to a trickling stream or babbling brook. Nestled in the heart of town you have two great options that immerse you into the calmness and serenity of what it means to be in Woodstock.
